chat members and history syncing sat in their own popovers instead of Macro's side panel, the open panel covered the timeline and composer, and a chat added before any of its messages was known claimed to be "Importing history…" forever. Re-pairing after KMS lost a device's key looped forever, and such a connected account still showed as Connected.
What
Schema (in layer 4's migration): adds waiting_for_message to whatsapp_group.backfill_state.
whatsapp_linked and the session service: a chat with no known message waits for its first one, then imports history from it.
Regenerated storage client, OpenAPI, SDK and code-mode catalog.
Web: members and import status live in the generic side panel; the open panel no longer overlaps the timeline or composer; no "Importing history…" while waiting for a first message.
Re-pairing an account whose stored device KMS can no longer unwrap (a lost or replaced key, e.g. a new LocalStack) no longer loops on "Opening the WhatsApp device failed" with the dialog on "Preparing code…": pairing deletes the device before opening it (PgWhatsAppStore::reset_device, no KMS call), and an unreadable device is replaced once if opening still fails. KMS errors now say whether they are retryable; an outage never wipes anything.
A connected account whose device can't be read is marked logged_out, so the web shows Reconnect instead of Connected.
Signals accept a bare id as well as JSON, so a hand-sent pg_notify('whatsapp_pairing_requested', '<uuid>') works.
On phones, Stop syncing closes the details sheet before its confirmation, so the confirmation's tap isn't swallowed by the sheet closing.

The schema is three migrations in its final shape: layer 4's 20261027061310_whatsapp_linked and 20261027061311_validate_entity_whatsapp_group_type, and layer 5's 20261027062649_whatsapp_store; no later layer adds a migration.

Why:

Keep the stored event when retain_in returns Backlogged.
retain_in returns LinkedError::Backlogged when the account holds MAX_RETAINED_EVENTS (4096) rows. ingest_event sends only Unavailable to the retain path. Backlogged falls to the final Err(error) arm, which deletes the whatsapp_inbound_event row for that event_id and returns the error.
Trigger: replay_deferred re-ingests an event that is already retained. If the event still takes a retain state, retain_in counts that row and returns Backlogged at the cap. The final arm then deletes the row. The protocol event was already acknowledged after durable storage, so the message is lost. Before this change, the error propagated and the row stayed for a later retry.
