Look up the anchor inside its scroller.
If two split panels show the same email row, both lists render the same DOM ID. getElementById can return the row in the other panel. The containment check then discards the anchor, so new mail can shift the second panel’s scroll position. Find the matching row within scroller instead.

Await cache confirmation before accepting omitted-ID Done.
confirmEntityNotificationsDone returns true before writeConfirmedDone completes. The Done operation can therefore accept the optimistic hide while the cache write is still pending. If the write rejects, the maintained reader receives no fallback reread. fireAndForget would report the rejection but would not fix this timing or restore the optimistic state.
Return a success/failure result from the cache confirmation and propagate and await it through onWriteSettled. Enter the confirmed branch only after the cache write succeeds. On failure, use the existing rollback path. This satisfies FE-13 and prevents accepting an unconfirmed hide.

Pass the email view through the grouped Soup projection.
Grouped email queries enable this path when emailView is set. createGraphqlGroupedSoupProjection maps each record without the requested view. emailThreadSortTs then applies the INBOX rule. Sent, All, and Drafts rows can receive the wrong sortTs, which affects row sorting and date grouping.
The non-grouped email projection already passes the view. Update the grouped projection instead of changing mapGraphqlSoupPage.

Why: every committed mutation (mark done, mark read or unread, a new task) refreshed each active Soup list after resetting it to its first page. A list scrolled past its first 100 rows collapsed to them, losing the rows and the scroll position, after each Done and each unread thread opened. What: the mutation-driven refresh refetches the loaded page chain in cursor order without the reset. A page whose cursor changed is fetched before it replaces the old one, so the list keeps its height while the chain rebuilds.
Why: every email tab shows the local cache's Mail page once the cache changes after the network page landed, and the mail backfill, thread loads and read marks change it every few seconds. Each change evaluated the page at its first 100 rows, so a list scrolled past them collapsed back. Loading more failed too: the backfill moved the page's cursor before the next page arrived, the page was dropped, and Load More did nothing, so no tab could show more than 100 threads. What: the local Mail page remembers its depth, the rows loaded through either source, and every evaluation reads that deep, following the index's cursor in requests the cache accepts (fewer than 500 rows each). A next page whose cursor went stale raises the depth and evaluates again instead of dropping back to the first page. Loading more also advances the server pages, so the list stays as deep when the network page is authoritative again.
Why: with the list scrolled down, a thread arriving over the realtime push, or one marked done from another view, changed the rows above the viewport. The scroll offset stayed put, so the content shifted under the user by a row each time. What: the list records where its first rows on screen sit as it scrolls, and after any change to the rows scrolls by however far they moved, using the first of them that is still listed. At the top of the list nothing is anchored, so new mail shows up there.
Why: email rows were identified by thread and date group. When a reply arrived on a thread from yesterday, or its reminder returned, it moved to Today under a new row id: the row remounted, the keyboard cursor on it vanished and fell back to a neighbouring thread, and with the reading pane open the pane followed that fallback and switched away from the thread being read. What: grouped soup rows can be keyed by entity alone, for lists where each entity sits in one group; the email list's date buckets use it. A thread changing group keeps its row, its DOM and the cursor. An entity listed in two groups still gets two rows.
Why: every Done, Undo, thread open and draft autosave read each loaded list page again after the write: one Done sent 17 list and notification queries, one thread open 19. The normalized cache already holds the change through the optimistic write and the returned records, and every list re-evaluates from it, so the refetches only cost requests. Worse, they read a replica that can lag the write, so they could bring back the read or archive state the user just changed. What: - Archive (Done, Not done, Undo), read and unread, draft save and discard, entity notification updates and email reminders no longer refetch lists when the cache is on. The uncached transport keeps its refresh. - An entity-wide Done answers with only the rows it changed, and notification state is never pushed. When it changed nothing, the rows this client still shows are already done on the server: write that into the cache (`NotificationStateCacheWrite`) instead of rolling the row back. - Rule FE-56 and the email agent guide describe the no-refetch contract.
Why: the previous commit stopped every post-write list refetch with the cache on. Lists the cache does not maintain (grouped lists, filters it cannot evaluate, a Mail page whose local evaluation is incomplete) had no other way to learn of a write, and a queued write replayed after a reload lost its revalidations. A mark seen that the server answered without a row the client showed unseen, or a Done answered in part, left notification state stale. What: - Readers report `cacheMaintained`: a local Mail page whose last evaluation succeeded, a maintained predicate query, or a reader that computes unread from cached notification state. Writes that update the cache revalidate and refresh only the others (`unmaintainedOnly`), so every Email tab still sends no list query after Done or a read. - A Done writes the known rows the server left out as done, partial or empty. A mark seen that left out an expected row reads every notification reader again, since only the server knows whether it is seen or done. - Home's Done writes the notifications its rows showed as done and reads only unmaintained readers; its Undo still reads all of them. - FE-56, the email, channels and live-update agent guides, and the revalidation comments describe the narrower contract.
Why: the previous commit let Home's work-feed Done skip maintained lists after writing its notification states. That Done also archives inbox mail on the server without returning the thread, and it marks only the notifications its row showed, so a channel's one-witness unread edge could read done while a newer notification stays unseen. Its state write also had no failure guard. Separately, a Mail page whose evaluation needed a stale-revision retry was never recorded as maintained, and an engine generation change left the old flag in place. What: - Home's work-feed Done and Undo read every notification reader again, as before; the guide says so. - Channel unread presence counts as cache-maintained for list refreshes too. Home unread does not: a delivered reminder adds to its `unreadReminders` edge, which no cached write fills. - The latest local Mail request records its outcome after any retry, and an engine handoff clears it. - Tests: mark seen passes its unseen ids; channel presence is skipped by maintained-only refreshes; maintenance survives a stale retry and ends on a handoff.
Why: scrolling a local Mail list also fetched the next server page to keep the two as deep. That page started even offline, its failure replaced the list with an error, its spinner showed after the local page had rendered, and while it was persisted the server pages briefly took over from the local rows. Merging a page also dropped the first page's pending-write flag, so the server rows could take over and undo it on screen. Lists counted as cache-maintained while their maintained query was still loading, and Drive folder lists, whose email rows come only from the server, counted too, so writes skipped reading them. What: the server page kept in step is skipped offline, never takes over from the local list, and is kept out of its loading and error state. A merged page stays pending while any page was. A list counts as cache-maintained only once its maintained query is ready, and folder lists that take email from the server never do.
## Why A cached Mail list re-read after a write could only ask for a number of rows, and every write expired its cursor. The client had to count the rows it showed, stitch reads past the 499-row request limit, and re-read one page deeper whenever a write raced Load More. Counting rows also moved the list's bottom edge: new mail at the top pushed the last loaded rows off. Cursors were also bound to the page size, so one from a deep re-read was stale for the next Load More. ## What - A Mail page request takes `through`, a page's new `endCursor`: the engine returns every row from the top through that position, and at least `limit` rows (up to 5,000), paging the index inside one engine command. - Cursors check only the engine generation and the query, not the revision or the page size, so Load More after a write or a deep re-read continues after the same row. - `ValidatedIndexQuery::sorts_after` shares the keyset comparison that `PredicateExpr::After` matches with.
A cache write re-reads a scrolled Mail list as deep as it was, counted in rows. New mail at the top then pushed the last loaded rows off the bottom, and a Load More racing a write re-read the whole list one page deeper. - Each local evaluation keeps its page's `endCursor`, and the next one reads through it with at least as many rows as are loaded: the list ends at the same row whatever arrives above it, in one cache request. This covers pages the server loaded while it was authoritative too. - Load More keeps the new page's `endCursor`; one racing a write re-reads through it. - The worker's request validation accepts `through`, whose `limit` (up to 5,000) is the fewest rows. - Native engines that predate `endCursor` keep the row count (`mail-depth.ts`), so an over-the-air bundle works on older apps. - `graphql_cache.soup_local_evaluation` records `evaluation.edge` (`through` or `count`); `evaluation.depth` is now the rows read.
…lity Brings in main through the cache branch. Main's bulk archive path (#8774), which Mark Done now uses even for one row, read every active list again for each changed thread. It now follows FE-58 like the single-thread path: it revalidates only the lists the cache does not maintain, and refreshes lists only without the normalized cache. Main's `buildEmailDateRows` keys email rows by entity, as the list did before.
Why: with Mail cursors that survive writes and `through` reads, every engine the web bundle ships reads a scrolled list in one request. The row-count path (mail-depth.ts) only served native apps whose engine predates `endCursor`, and those can keep main's behaviour until their next App Store release. What: the live query keeps one edge, the last loaded row's position. Evaluations read through it, with at least as many rows as the server pages shown; without an edge, or when a replaced engine no longer knows it, they read the first page. A Load More whose cursor went stale restarts at the first page, as on main. mail-depth.ts, its count fallback and its telemetry are gone; the evaluation span records `evaluation.through` and `evaluation.depth`.
Why: no test drove the Load More branch that gets `stale-cursor` and restarts the local Mail page chain. What: the through test's fake engine replaces itself once more before a Load More, which then reads the first page again.
Why: review found three gaps in the local Mail page: - the first evaluation that published an edge reran the effect, which superseded the request before it marked the page cache-maintained, so the next write still refetched the list; - resetting to the first page (pull to refresh, filter changes) kept the edge, so the next evaluation read every old page back; - two Load Mores while a server page was in flight shared one server request, leaving the server pages a page short, so a refresh that made them authoritative collapsed the list. What: a successful evaluation marks the page maintained when it publishes, and only the latest failed one clears it. Resetting forgets the edge. Load More raises the rows the server pages should hold, and one chain fetches pages until they do, stopping on an input change, offline, the last page, or a page that did not load.
Why: two Mail splits can show the same rows under the same ids. The anchor looked rows up in the whole document, found the first split's, and skipped them, so the second split jumped when mail arrived above. What: anchors are looked up among the scroller's own rows.
Why: review of the server-page catch-up found that resetting to the first page did not stop it. The reset shrank the server pages, which the catch-up read as progress, so it fetched the dropped pages again and grew the list back. A local Load More still reading its records at the reset took the raced-write path and restored its old edge the same way. What: a paging generation, bumped on a new input and on a reset. The catch-up stops when it changes or when a page does not add to the chain, and a Load More from an earlier generation is dropped.

e)Soup, 4ChannelUnreadPresence)cmd+z)Soup, 1ChannelUnreadPresence)The normalized cache already had each change through the optimistic write and the returned records. The refetches only cost requests. Since they read a replica that can lag the write, they could also bring back the read or archive state the user had just changed.
How it works
What
lib/queries/soup/items.ts): a refresh no longer drops the list to its first page. Refreshes are now rare (uncached transport, failure fallback), and they keep the user's place.create-soup-live-query.ts, on feat(cache): read Mail pages through a row position that survives writes #8909):through), and at least as many rows as the server pages shown. New mail above adds a row instead of pushing the last one off.through, whoselimit(up to 5,000) is the fewest rows; a Mail request takes a cursor orthrough, not both (coordinator-protocol.ts).graphql_cache.soup_local_evaluationrecordsevaluation.throughandevaluation.depth.email-view/primitives/scroll-anchor.ts): the list remembers the first visible rows and corrects the scroll offset by however far they moved. On touch it waits for a moving scroll to settle, since settingscrollTopstops iOS momentum scrolling.soup/collection/rows.ts,keyByEntity): email row ids no longer include the group, so the row, the cursor and the reading pane follow the thread.Readers report whether the cache keeps them current (

hasGraphqlCacheHost).Done, Not done, Undo, read and unread, draft save and discard, entity notification updates and email reminders revalidate only the lists the cache does not maintain (
getUnmaintainedGraphqlSoupRevalidations). That includes the bulk Done and Not Done path from feat(email): send one Gmail request per label action #8774, which Mark Done uses even for one row. That includes a queued replay after a reload. Every Email tab is maintained. An entity-wide Done returns only the notification rows it changed, and rows it did not change are not pushed. Known rows it left out were already done on the server, so they are written into the cache as done (
NotificationStateCacheWrite) instead of rolling the row back.A mark seen that leaves out a row this client showed unseen reads every notification reader again, since only the server knows whether that row is seen or done.

unreadRemindersedge no cached write fills.Without the normalized cache, every list is still read again after a write.
create-soup-live-query.ts):use-email-query.ts): the done-row check from fix(email): stop Signal rows flickering and jumping after mark done #8165 applies to list rows only. The search service cannot filter archive state, so the check dropped every archived hit: searching "Contract" from Signal found 4 threads and showed none.Follow-ups
