- Line 959: Update logV2 to route diagnostics through the v2 context’s logging
method when available; otherwise use a single documented
console.error/console.warn sink instead of console.log.
- Around line 1375-1378: Update the SAFE_COMMAND and SAFE_TEST checks in both
permission handlers so they cannot approve compound or partially matched
commands: validate each resource separately, reject shell metacharacters, and
set event.effect to allow only when every resource fully matches an allowed
command pattern.
- Around line 1578-1580: Update ECCHooksPluginV2 to retain each successfully
created V2HookRegistration from safeRegister, then dispose those registrations
during cleanup alongside aborting the event stream. Pass the shared registration
collection to all five safeRegister calls so hooks from an earlier setup cannot
remain active after cleanup.
- Around line 979-984: Update the Windows command execution in runCommand so
`.cmd` shims selected by the executable resolution logic run through `cmd.exe /d
/s /c` or an enabled shell; safely validate or quote any event-supplied file
path before passing it through a shell.
Review comments at @scripts/lib/install/hook-consent.js:
- Around line 104-107: Update the placeholder entrypoint generated by the
hook-consent flow so declined-consent installs remain loadable on supported
OpenCode versions before 1.18.29; generate a version-compatible entrypoint for
older versions, or narrow the declared support range to versions that accept
this object default export.
- Around line 99-105: Update the disabled-ID derivation from sourceRelativePath
to include the complete relative plugin path, including its extension, in a
collision-resistant form; do not reduce it to the basename or extensionless
stem. Add a test installing plugins/index.ts and plugins/custom/index.js and
verify they receive distinct disabled IDs.
Review comments at @tests/opencode-plugin-hooks.test.js:
- Around line 850-875: Extend the “v2: permissions relax ask decisions but never
override deny” test around the permission evaluate hook with cases for a safe
command chained to an unsafe command and a resource list containing both safe
and unsafe entries. Ensure the permission handler leaves each case’s effect as
ask.

[Medium impact] The changes affect OpenCode hook behavior and one background analysis workflow. Do not merge until the outstanding backup-deletion and test failures are addressed. The false doctor error and observer scheduling regression are non-blocking. Findings
Fix with agent prompt### Issue 1
tests/opencode-plugin-hooks.test.js:undefined-1110
The new test expects `invocation.file` to equal `"cmd.exe"`, but `commandInvocation()` correctly prefers `process.env.ComSpec`. With the normal Windows value `C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe`, the actual hook suite fails at this assertion: 30 tests pass and one fails. The same suite passes all 31 tests with `ComSpec` unset.
Because the Windows CI lane runs the full suite, this assertion blocks that lane even though the runner selects the correct executable. Compare against `process.env.ComSpec || "cmd.exe"`, or explicitly set and restore `ComSpec` in the test before merging.
```suggestion
assert.strictEqual(invocation.file, process.env.ComSpec || "cmd.exe")
```
### Issue 2
skills/continuous-learning-v2/agents/observer-loop.sh:undefined-507
The changed `claude $MODEL_FLAG` call breaks `tests/hooks/observer-memory.test.js`. That test still searches for `claude --model` and requires `${ECC_OBSERVER_MODEL:-haiku}`, so its invocation assertion now always fails. The suite passes all 32 tests before this change but exits with a failure on this branch. Update the test to cover the intended model-selection behavior and retain both environment-guard checks before merging.
### Issue 3
scripts/lib/install/apply.js:464-467
`cleanupBrokenOpenCodePlugins()` permanently deletes files based only on their names, without checking ECC ownership. Previewing an install therefore removes unrelated backups such as `plugins/custom.js.bak`.
This also happens during CLI `--dry-run` and for non-OpenCode targets because preview invokes cleanup before the target check. Symlinked plugin directories allow deletion outside the target root. A Claude rules-only dry run reproduced these deletions while reporting success and `applied: false`.
Keep previews read-only, and restrict any apply-time cleanup to verified ECC-owned files through the existing safe-removal checks.
### Issue 4
scripts/lib/install/apply.js:481-482
`activationIsInactive()` no longer recognizes the inert placeholder written by earlier ECC installs: `export default async () => ({});`. After upgrading ECC, users who declined hooks receive an `opencode-hook-consent-violation` error from the doctor even though the plugin still does nothing. This is non-blocking, but it gives users a false consent warning and requires repair to clear it. The installed-state check reproduced the error with the old placeholder; the current placeholder passed under the same consent settings.
Accept the old inert form when checking inactivity, while continuing to write the new dual-contract form.
### Issue 5
skills/continuous-learning-v2/agents/observer-loop.sh:32-34
These unconditional exports overwrite the user's `OBSERVER_ACTIVE_HOURS_START`, `OBSERVER_ACTIVE_HOURS_END`, and `OBSERVER_MAX_IDLE_SECONDS`. A configured business-hours window becomes unrestricted before `session-guardian.sh` reads it. The observer can then make paid calls outside the user's chosen hours or while they are idle. This is a non-blocking cost-control regression; use defaults that preserve explicit environment values.
```suggestion
export OBSERVER_ACTIVE_HOURS_START="${OBSERVER_ACTIVE_HOURS_START:-0}"
export OBSERVER_ACTIVE_HOURS_END="${OBSERVER_ACTIVE_HOURS_END:-0}"
export OBSERVER_MAX_IDLE_SECONDS="${OBSERVER_MAX_IDLE_SECONDS:-0}"
```

Install previews delete user backups
cleanupBrokenOpenCodePlugins() permanently deletes files based only on their names, without checking ECC ownership. Previewing an install therefore removes unrelated backups such as plugins/custom.js.bak.
This also happens during CLI --dry-run and for non-OpenCode targets because preview invokes cleanup before the target check. Symlinked plugin directories allow deletion outside the target root. A Claude rules-only dry run reproduced these deletions while reporting success and applied: false.
Keep previews read-only, and restrict any apply-time cleanup to verified ECC-owned files through the existing safe-removal checks.
Knowledge Base Used: Installation and distribution
Artifacts
Executable backup deletion validation harness
- The authored harness runs real API previews and CLI dry-runs against isolated fixtures on both revisions, providing a reproducible test without product-code modifications.
Preview and dry-run output before the cleanup addition
- Captured baseline execution records exact invocations and fixture survival for all four cases, showing that all 32 matching user backups were preserved.
Preview and dry-run output with the cleanup addition
- Captured head execution records successful previews and dry-runs alongside missing backup fixtures, showing deletion of all 32 matching user backups including files outside targetRoot.
Revision ancestry and deletion call-chain evidence
- Executed Git and numbered-source commands capture both merge bases, incremental ancestry, the added cleanup and call, and an empty tracked diff, confirming the requested scope and unchanged product code.

Thank you for the careful OpenCode 2 work. The dual server/setup contract and the permission tests address a real cross-harness gap, and the focused build and plugin tests pass on this head. Before this can land, please make two focused corrections:
The adapter itself is worth carrying forward. If the runtime validation is more than you can take on now, let us know; we can queue that focused work after the next release and keep this branch as a reference. Thanks again for tackling the migration. |
OpenCode 2 auto-discovers every file in .opencode/plugins/, requires a plugin default to carry an id and either a setup(ctx) hook or an effect, rejects duplicate plugin ids at activation, and no longer requires a bare function default export. - Ship one definition in plugins/ecc-hooks.ts with id + server (OpenCode 1.15+) + setup (OpenCode 2.x). Keep v1 hook behavior byte-equivalent and hoist shared helpers into createHookGate(). - Map OpenCode 2 hooks: shell.create.before, tool.execute.before/after, permission.evaluate (only ask->allow), session.compaction (append to event.system), and event stream (session.created/id/idle/deleted, file.edited, filesystem.changed). todo.updated has no v2 equivalent. - Make plugins/index.ts an inert barrel with its own id so auto-discovery doesn't double-register hooks. Have .opencode/index.ts export the dual definition so the published package works under both contracts. - Harden disabled-install placeholders to be dual-contract and unique per file (ecc.disabled.<stem>) since OpenCode 2 rejects duplicates. - Update OpenCode README for >=1.15 compatibility, hook mapping, and disabled-placeholder semantics. - Extend tests for the dual contract and add v2 setup/permission/ compaction/event coverage; adjust legacy-loader discovery to follow OpenCode 1.15+'s definition.contract shape. Reviewed-by: talos-code-reviewer Fri Oct 23 2026
OpenCode 2 replaced the `(input) => hooks` plugin contract with `setup(ctx)`,
so ECC's bare-function default export was loaded and then ignored: the plugin
initialized nothing and every hook silently went missing. The module now
exports `{ id, server, setup }` — `server` for OpenCode 1.18.29+ (the first 1.x
loader that accepts an object entrypoint) and `setup` for OpenCode 2 — and the
v2 surface registers every hook the v1 object provided.
- split the surface into lib/{hooks-shared,v1-hooks,v2-hooks}.ts so no file
exceeds 800 lines and no function owns a whole contract; the v1 factory is
one function per hook over shared state, mirroring the v2 registrars
- map the v2 surfaces: shell.env -> shell.hook("create.before"),
tool.execute.* -> tool.hook(...), permission.ask ->
permission.hook("evaluate"), experimental.session.compacting ->
session.hook("compaction"), session.*/file.edited -> event.subscribe,
file.watcher.updated -> filesystem.changed, todo.updated dropped
- relax permissions only from ask to allow, never over a deny, and classify
every resource independently against shell control syntax so a compound
command such as `npm test && curl ... | sh` stays ask
- run formatters/type checks with async spawn instead of spawnSync so a slow
compiler cannot block the server event loop; launch Windows .cmd shims
through ComSpec because Node refuses to execute them directly
- dispose every hook registration and abort the event stream on cleanup;
log the event type when a handler fails instead of swallowing the error
- keep diagnostics off stdout, which OpenCode owns for its TUI
- load the changed-files store and skill tracker lazily and degrade to one
disabled capability when a module is missing, rather than failing setup
- derive disabled-consent placeholder ids from the entrypoint path inside
plugins/ so nested entrypoints keep distinct ids that stay stable across
source, dist and destination paths
- derive the plugin dir from import.meta.url only: a `__dirname` fallback can
only ever be a foreign global (Node's `-e` sets it to "."), which silently
resolved the plugin dir to the cwd and broke the store/root probes
- document the 1.18.29 floor and drop the claim that the plugin registers
custom tools on the v2 contract
On Windows, cmd.exe expands %NAME% even inside double-quoted arguments, so a path like "src/%USERNAME%.ts" silently becomes "src/Administrator.ts" before prettier or tsc ever sees it. Neither /e:off nor /v:off reliably prevents this: /e:off breaks npm .cmd shims (which depend on FOR /F and batch parameter modifiers), and /v:off only disables delayed !VAR! expansion, not ordinary %VAR% expansion. The reliable fix is to double every % in each command-line token before passing it to cmd.exe: %% becomes a single literal %. A file named src/%USERNAME%.ts now arrives at the formatter as exactly that — never rewritten. The test now calls windowsCommandLine() directly instead of asserting on the compiled source text.
The previous -- path separator in getDisabledOpenCodePluginContent() collided when a file was literally named with double hyphens: plugins/custom--index.js and plugins/custom/index.js both produced ecc.disabled.custom--index, which OpenCode 2 rejects as a duplicate plugin id. The fix replaces -- with _ as the path separator and doubles existing underscores in segment names before joining. This gives distinct IDs: custom/index.js -> ecc.disabled.custom_index custom--index.js -> ecc.disabled.custom--index (literal -- preserved) custom_index.js -> ecc.disabled.custom__index (escaped literal _) Test assertions updated to match the new underscore-based IDs, and two new cases added (doubleFlat, underscoreFlat) to cover the collision pair that -- could not handle.
The watchdog ceiling also needed raising: 16KB at 12 bytes/sec needs 1,365s, so the old 900s cap guaranteed a timeout on any payload above ~10.8KB and kept the death spiral (affaan-m#2741) spinning. Measured a turn costs ~47s and the budget is 12 bytes/sec, i.e. one turn consumes ~559 bytes of watchdog. That makes bytes/600 the correct formula; timeout/60 hands Claude 17 turns for a job needing 23, which is exactly the --max-turns failure that retains observations and makes every retry identical. Also disables the session-guardian gates (active-hours, idle-detection) so the observer runs on every interval regardless of time of day.

activationIsInactive() no longer recognizes the inert placeholder written by earlier ECC installs: export default async () => ({});. After upgrading ECC, users who declined hooks receive an opencode-hook-consent-violation error from the doctor even though the plugin still does nothing. This is non-blocking, but it gives users a false consent warning and requires repair to clear it. The installed-state check reproduced the error with the old placeholder; the current placeholder passed under the same consent settings.
Accept the old inert form when checking inactivity, while continuing to write the new dual-contract form.

Problem
OpenCode 2 replaced the plugin contract. A 1.x plugin is a bare function:
A 2.x plugin is a module definition with a
setup(ctx)entrypoint that registerscallbacks on context surfaces. ECC's default export was the 1.x function, so on
OpenCode 2 the module loaded, found no
setup, and registered nothing: theplugin appeared installed and every hook was silently gone — formatters, the
TypeScript check, the safety warnings, permission relaxation and the compaction
context all no-ops, with no error to explain it.
Fix
One module now carries both contracts, keyed by what each loader reads:
OpenCode 2 reads

plugins/lib/{hooks-shared,v1-hooks,v2-hooks}.ts; theentrypoint is ~60 lines, every file is under 800 lines, and the 1.x factory is
one function per hook over shared state, mirroring the 2.x registrars.
Compatibility
setupcontract, verified against the 2.1.3 loader.servercontract. 1.18.29 is the floor: it isthe first 1.x release whose loader accepts an object entrypoint. Earlier 1.x
loaders iterate module exports and require a bare function default, which an
object cannot also be. The docs no longer claim 1.15+.
Verification
tests/opencode-plugin-hooks.test.js— 29 passing, including a v2 harness thatdrives the real registrars: compound-command rejection, per-resource permission
evaluation, compaction append-vs-replace, cleanup disposing every registration.
tests/scripts/build-opencode.test.js(9),tests/plugin-manifest.test.js(71),tests/lib/hook-consent.test.js(13), install suites, ESLint and markdownlintclean.
(
tests/hooks/session-end.test.js) failed once under parallel load and passesstandalone on both this branch and
main; the remaining files pass.
