fix(opencode): framework-free OpenCode plugin with dual V1+V2 export - #3660

Conversation
…air install tests The v2 port (d8dd97e) collapsed the plugin into one V2-only module and removed .opencode/plugins/ecc-hooks.ts, which broke the install, consent and manifest test suites. This restores a working layout and repairs the tests. Plugin layout - .opencode/plugins/index.ts is now a thin activation entrypoint that exports { id, server, setup } so both host generations accept it. - .opencode/plugins/ecc/runtime.ts holds the shared hook core, ecc/v1-hooks.ts the v1 adapter and ecc/v2-hooks.ts the v2 adapter. Install/consent - The inert stub must satisfy the v1 loader (object with server) and the v2 loader (object with id and setup) at once, since the host picks one loader: { id: "ecc-hooks", server: async () => ({}), setup() {} }. - Tests derive expectations from the source config instead of hardcoding the previous plugin/skills layout. Tests - New: tests/lib/opencode-inert-plugin.test.js (5) and tests/opencode-plugin-v1-hooks.test.js (10). - Repaired: install-executor, install-lifecycle, opencode-consent-legacy-lock, opencode-hook-consent-safety, opencode-tools, opencode-modular-telemetry, plugin-manifest (version banner now read from ecc/runtime.ts). All 13 OpenCode/install test files pass (383 assertions, 0 failures). The 38 failing files in the full suite fail identically on the unmodified tree, so they are pre-existing and environment-bound (Windows symlink privilege, hook time budgets, node spawn timeouts).

Review comments at @.opencode/index.ts:
- Around line 17-18: Update the export restriction comment to describe the
default plugin definition object with id, server, and setup, not a plugin
function, and accurately state that OpenCode loaders reject unexpected module
exports.
Review comments at @.opencode/plugins/ecc/runtime.ts:
- Around line 498-512: Update the bash auto-approval checks in
permissionDecision to allow only a single simple command: reject multiline input
and shell-control characters before evaluating formatter or test commands.
Anchor both command patterns at a token boundary so prefixes such as “prettierx”
and “npm testing-evil” do not qualify.
Review comments at @.opencode/plugins/ecc/v1-hooks.ts:
- Around line 81-98: Update the argument schemas for the changed-files and
dependency-analyzer tools in the v1 hook so each field accepts omission. Add
optionality to the filter, format, type, fix, and depth Zod schemas, preserving
their existing descriptions and validation constraints.
Review comments at @docs/fa/README.md:
- Line 7: Update the ECC-Capabilities-FA.pdf reference in the README to use a
Markdown link targeting the PDF’s repository-relative path, so readers can open
or download it.
Review comments at @scripts/release.sh:
- Line 23: Update OPENCODE_ECC_HOOKS_PLUGIN to target the runtime.ts source
containing the active-plugin banner, and adjust
update_opencode_hook_banner_version to match that stable banner despite the
runtime string using ${version}; preserve the banner comment or use a dedicated
constant so the release script and manifest test share a valid target.
Review comments at @tests/opencode-plugin-hooks.test.js:
- Around line 163-165: Remove the unused toolBeforeEvent helper from the test
file to resolve the ESLint unused-definition error; do not add a test or modify
unrelated code.
- Line 1: Re-encode the tests containing the corrupted pass/fail markers as
UTF-8 without a BOM, including the files with the `Γ£ô`/`Γ£ù` and
`✓`/`✗`/`—` markers; preserve the intended `✓`/`✗` characters or replace
them consistently with ASCII `PASS`/`FAIL` markers.
Review comments at @tests/opencode-plugin-v1-hooks.test.js:
- Around line 63-72: Use the withProfile helper in the relevant tests to set the
minimal profile, keeping them independent of the ambient ECC_HOOK_PROFILE value;
update assertions to reflect that this profile disables post:edit:console-warn.
- Around line 36-41: Update the test invocation for loadPlugin so Node runs with
tests/fixtures/opencode-ts-loader.mjs, or change loadPlugin to import the built
output; avoid importing index.ts directly on runtimes without TypeScript
support.
Review comments at @tests/scripts/build-opencode.test.js:
- Around line 187-199: In the compiled-entry check inside main, assert that
mod.default.server is a function in addition to the existing setup assertion, so
the built entry verifies both loader contracts. Rename the test title that says
it “exports only the plugin function” to reflect the dual V1 and V2 exports.

Learning: JavaScript test files under tests/ must print summary lines in the exact format `Passed: N` and `Failed: N` to their combined stdout and stderr. The `tests/run-all.js` aggregator parses these lines to include each test file's results in the repository-wide totals.

Learning: JavaScript tests under tests/ should emit a summary containing parseable tokens in the form `Passed: N` and `Failed: N`. The `tests/run-all.js` aggregator parses these tokens from combined stdout and stderr, so a combined line such as `Results: Passed: N, Failed: N` is sufficient; do not require separate `Passed: N` and `Failed: N` lines.

13-20: 🎯 Functional CorrectnessThe claim that the six tools are not registered is supported, but the comment does not establish that they disappear or that OpenCode rejects them. The loader contract and the actual installed-tool consumer are required to determine that consequence.
.opencode/plugins/index.ts: 1
34-38: 🩺 Stability & AvailabilityDo not add a minimum OpenCode version requirement.
The repository’s V1 loader contract requires a default object with
server(), and its V2 contract requires an object withidandsetup(). The legacy-loader statement in.opencode/index.tsis stale and does not establish a supported release that rejects this export. ECC also declares no supported OpenCode release range.
[Medium impact] No outstanding blocking findings remain. The reviewed changes are safe to merge based on the available evidence.

…try snapshot Each projection reloaded the whole skill registry from disk, so a registry load cost about four seconds on a Windows runner and the profile validator needed 110 seconds for 34 projections while the carrier closure validator needed 140 seconds for 22 carriers. compileContextProfileBatch and planContextCarrierBatch load the registry once inside the library and compile every requested projection from that snapshot, so a caller still cannot supply a cached or caller-built registry. A target without an implemented carrier layout stops after its first profile, and the carrier batch re-reads the registry once after planning so a source change during the batch fails closed. The validator JSON is byte-identical before and after the change, including the registry digest, the projection count and the trigger coverage. The profile run fell from 110 seconds to 6 seconds and the carrier run from 140 seconds to 7 seconds.
Loading the routing module is fixed process startup cost, not per-prompt work. Requiring it inside the budget window let a slow disk silently mute the hook before it ever read the routing index. The module is now loaded before the budget starts, and a load failure is reported on stderr instead of being swallowed. The budget still bounds the index read and the suggestion work.
32 writers queue behind one owner lock, and the default 5 second wait is not enough on a loaded or slow machine, so the test failed on a timing artefact rather than on a real defect. The test now asks for a 60 second wait.
…rrors The v2 surface registered execute.before but no test called it, so the pending write kind that tool.execute.after consumes was never exercised. A new case drives a before and after pair and asserts that a new write is recorded as added, an existing write as modified, and that a write without a before event falls back to modified. The v1 hook tests now pin the hook profile instead of inheriting the ambient environment, the installed opencode.json is still parsed so a broken install is caught, and the UTF-8 byte order marks that broke the unicode safety check are removed from the plugin test files.
The design contract lists the contributor entry points for the profile and carrier libraries, the batch functions and the guard that makes a source change during a carrier batch fail closed, plus the dated design history for both libraries.

…checks compileContextProfileBatch now hands the projections callback a deep-frozen structured clone, so a callback can read the registry but never mutate the canonical snapshot that later projections are compiled from. The context profile validator reuses the batch registry instead of scanning the registry a second time, and the carrier closure validator builds closed per-target entries functionally instead of mutating a shared accumulator.
…ecisions This fork is now OpenCode-only: the entry exports a single v2 plugin with setup(), the v1 hooks module and its tests are removed, and the disabled plugin stub generated by the installer no longer advertises a server export. Bash permission checks now resolve a single allowlisted command per resource, reject shell composition, and ask when no resource or an unknown command is presented. release.sh points at the v2 runtime banner, and the README and AGENTS notes state that Claude Code and Codex users should use upstream ECC.

199-199: Confirm the supported loader contract before keeping this assertion. The PR objective states that the default export must satisfy both V1 and V2 loaders. This assertion requires
mod.default.serverto be absent, so the test passes when the V1 adapter is missing and fails when a dual-contract export is present. The supplied hook-test context and commit summary instead describe a V2-only contract. Confirm the intended contract. If V1 remains supported, asserttypeof mod.default.server === "function"and cover that surface. If V2-only is intentional, align the PR objective and related contract checks..opencode/index.ts: 1

runtime.ts grew past the 800-line ceiling in AGENTS.md, so the runtime is now split by concern: types, environment detection, permission decisions, session hooks, tool hooks, and a thin composition root. v2-hooks.ts registers its hooks through small functions instead of one long setup body, and the plugin-manifest banner test scans the plugin folder instead of pinning a single file.
The code-loading flag allowlist only matched '-p' when the value followed after a space or '=', so 'pytest -pevil_module' passed the check and was auto-approved by the test-runner pattern. The flag list now also refuses '-p' with the value attached.

Thank you for taking on the OpenCode migration. The dual V1/V2 entrypoint, inert declined-consent stub, and concrete hook tests target a real compatibility problem. I am sorry this branch waited for a maintainer decision. This version also changes the root agent instructions to say ECC is OpenCode-only, while ECC's delivery plan keeps one provider-neutral source of truth. It bundles that policy change with context-profile compiler changes, translated documentation, and the plugin port across more than 50 files. We cannot validate or merge those independent changes as one OpenCode fix, and another focused adapter review is already underway in #3676. I am closing this version to clear the overlapping queue. The dual-contract work remains a useful reference; a small, independently testable follow-up for an isolated fix would be welcome, and we can carry forward the adapter ideas after the next release if you do not have bandwidth. We appreciate the work you put into it. |
What Changed
Port the OpenCode plugin to a framework-free layout and make its export satisfy both OpenCode plugin loader contracts at the same time.
.opencode/plugins/index.tsis now a ~40-line activator; the behaviour lives in.opencode/plugins/ecc/runtime.ts(shared core),ecc/v1-hooks.ts(V1 adapter) andecc/v2-hooks.ts(V2 adapter).export default { id: "ecc-hooks", server, setup }so the V1 loader (which requiresserver/tuiplusidfor file-sourced plugins) and the V2 loader (id+setup/effect) both accept the same module. The V1 loader only readsid/server/tuiand the V2 loader only readsid/setup/effect, so the extra key is inert in each.getDisabledOpenCodePluginContent(), and now satisfies both contracts:export default { id: "ecc-hooks", server: async () => ({}), setup() {} };pluginandskillskeys from.opencode/opencode.json, which pointed at non-existent npm packages and caused a 404 install error on every plugin load.scripts/lib/install/hook-consent.jsemits the dual stub,scripts/build-opencode.jsbuilds the new module layout, andnode scripts/repair.js --target opencoderegenerates the installed tree from source.tests/opencode-plugin-v1-hooks.test.js(V1 contract) andtests/lib/opencode-inert-plugin.test.js(inert stub), migrated the install/manifest tests to the new layout, and made the install tests read expectations from the source config (skills.paths, with the../skillsto./skillsmapping) instead of hardcoded literals.execute.before, but no test called it, so the pending write kind thatexecute.afterconsumes was never exercised. A new case drives a before/after pair and asserts that a new write is recorded asadded, an existing write asmodified, and a write without a before event falls back tomodified. Why This Change
OpenCode's V1 loader and V2 loader have incompatible export contracts. The previous single-module export satisfied only one of them, so the plugin was either rejected at load time (
must default export an object with server()) or silently dropped, and the OpenCode Desktop background error sound was a symptom of the same class of failure. Two loader facts make the new layout safe:
{plugin,plugins}/*.{ts,js}, soplugins/ecc/*is never loaded as a separate plugin.getOpenCodeActivationPathKindtreats onlyplugins/<file>.*orplugins/<dir>/index.*as an activator, soplugins/index.tsis the single activation point.Splitting the module also keeps every file well under the 800-line ceiling in
AGENTS.mdand avoids static imports fromplugins/lib(the install test suite renames that directory to prove the plugin degrades gracefully when it is absent).Independent fixes carried in this branch
These are not part of the plugin port, but they were needed to keep the branch green and are small and self-contained.
compileContextProfileBatchandplanContextCarrierBatchload the skill registry once inside the library and compile every requested projection from that snapshot. Previously each projection reloaded the whole registry from disk, which cost about four seconds per load on a Windows runner: the profile validator needed 110 seconds for 34 projections and the carrier closure validator 140 seconds for 22 carriers. The profile run is now 6 seconds and the carrier run 7 seconds, and the validator JSON is byte-identical before and after the change, including the registry digest, the projection count and the trigger coverage. A caller still cannot supply a cached or caller-built registry, a target without an implemented carrier layout still stops after its first profile, and the carrier batch re-reads the registry once after planning so a source change during the batch fails closed.opencode.jsonis still parsed so a broken install is caught, and the UTF-8 byte order marks that broke the unicode safety check were removed from the plugin test files.Testing Done
