KeymapKit v1.1.0

KeymapKit 1.1.0 is the biggest update since the initial release.

This version completely redesigns how keyboard layouts are managed, making the application significantly cleaner, easier to use, and future-proof while preserving its lightweight and privacy-focused philosophy.

✨ What's New

🚀 New first-time setup

Instead of installing every available keyboard layout, KeymapKit now lets you choose exactly which layouts you want to install.

During the first launch you can:

  • Select only the layouts you need
  • Install multiple layouts at once
  • Start with recommended layouts based on your device language

This keeps Android's Physical Keyboard list much cleaner.

🎯 Layout Manager

A brand new Layout Manager has been added.

You can now:

  • Add new layouts
  • Remove installed layouts
  • Search layouts
  • View installed layouts
  • Enable only what you actually use

No reinstall is required.

🔍 Layout Search

Finding layouts is now much easier.

Search by:

  • Language
  • Country
  • Layout name

🌍 Language Categories

Layouts are now grouped into categories for easier navigation.

Examples include:

  • Latin
  • Cyrillic
  • Arabic
  • Indic
  • Asian
  • Semitic
  • African

⭐ Recommended Layouts

During setup, KeymapKit automatically recommends layouts based on the current device language.

For example:

  • Turkish devices → Turkish Q & Turkish F
  • English devices → English US

🧪 Keyboard Test Area

A new built-in testing area lets you verify your keyboard mapping immediately after installation.

No third-party app is required.

🔧 Diagnostics

Added a diagnostics screen that shows:

  • Active keyboard layouts
  • Connected physical keyboards
  • Provider status
  • Quick refresh

This makes troubleshooting much easier.

⚡ Better Architecture

Internally the application has been completely reorganized.

Highlights include:

  • Modular layout catalog
  • Selection repository
  • Dynamic provider management
  • Safer migration path
  • Cleaner codebase

🔄 Migration

Existing users are automatically migrated.

Previously installed layouts continue to work while KeymapKit transitions to the new modular layout system.

🛠 Improvements

  • Cleaner Material 3 interface
  • Improved onboarding
  • Better navigation
  • Faster layout filtering
  • Better keyboard detection
  • Improved project structure
  • Updated documentation
  • Better repository organization

🔒 Privacy

KeymapKit continues to be:

  • Completely offline
  • No analytics
  • No advertisements
  • No tracking
  • No cloud services
  • No account required
