Summary

Documents that data apps can now drive Lightdash parameters from interactive controls, following the upstream change adding parameter support to the data apps query SDK.

Changes

  • Added a "Parameters in data apps" section to the Data apps overview explaining when to use parameters vs. filters, how to prompt the agent for them, and that only parameters declared in YAML are available.
  • Cross-linked to the existing How to use parameters guide for declaration syntax.

Context

Triggered by lightdash/lightdash#23449, which adds parameter passing to the data apps query SDK so the AI-generated app can re-run a query with new ${lightdash.parameters.X} values when a user interacts with a control. The SDK itself is internal — users interact via prompts — so the docs change is a single section on the public Data apps page.

I don't think this needs an extra mention in the docs. The main point is that the LLM can use params properly, not that the person prompting it knows exactly how it works.
