Hello, is there any way to add a cooldown to the message shown when a player joins or leaves the server? For example, if a player joins or leaves, the message shouldn’t be able to appear again until after 10 seconds. This is to prevent the chat from being flooded with messages if a player joins or leaves many times (which happens quite often with players who have lag or poor internet).
@devpedrobarbosa check if rules dont have a suitable operator such as delay and how it works, bc i think this was already resolved two years ago somehow. thank you!
The suggestion of player delay is correct and is the best fit for this use case. Here's the full picture:
There are two delay operators available in message files (including join.rs and quit.rs):
Operator
Scope
Effect
delay 10 seconds
Global — all players share one cooldown
No join/quit message appears for anyone until 10s after the last one fired
player delay 10 seconds
Per-player — each player has their own cooldown
A specific player's join/quit message is suppressed if they rejoin within 10s, but other players' messages still show normally
For the reported issue (a single player reconnecting repeatedly due to lag), player delay is the correct operator — it silences repeated messages from the same player without hiding other players' joins/quits.
Example in join.rs:
group default
player delay 10 seconds
message:
- <gray>{player} <white>joined the server
And the same in quit.rs:
group default
player delay 10 seconds
message:
- <gray>{player} <white>left the server

@lukrr
As @kangarko suspected, there's already an operator that will most likely fix your issue.
Try adding
player delay X secondsto your message and let me know if it works.kangarko commentedon Feb 15, 2026
@kangobot can you ultrathink and scan the operators whether what we suggested is right and suggest the correct one?
