Summary

Adds a GPU selection subsection to configuration.md: list GPUs with nvidia-smi -L, expose specific GPUs with Docker --gpus '"device=..."' (index or UUID), expose a supported GPU count and a single GPU model, and use Docker device selection rather than CUDA_VISIBLE_DEVICES. Closes a coverage gap with the current NIM docs site (configuration.rst GPU Selection).

Validation

Checked against the 2.0.0 source (serving_stack/):

  • Selection counts and capabilities come from torch/CUDA (profile_selection/criteria.py L187-203, hardware.py L139-163, L244, L415, L489); the image sets NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES=all (Dockerfile.serve L1129).
  • The NIM rewrites CUDA_VISIBLE_DEVICES for worker processes (workflow.py L835-870; nim_cosmos_sdk/common/models/llm.py L226-229), so a value passed into the container can place work outside the intended GPUs.
  • Idle-GPU behavior: workflow.py L822-830. Mixed GPUs: criteria.py L194-199, hardware.py L385-428.

Docs-only change; pages were not rendered locally.

Explain how to list GPUs with nvidia-smi -L, expose them with Docker
--gpus by index or UUID, match a supported GPU count, and avoid
CUDA_VISIBLE_DEVICES, which the NIM rewrites for its worker processes.
