"a distro for the anti normie"
Welcome to the central community hub for Athanor.
Athanor is a Gentoo-based Linux distribution built on the principles of divergence, minimalism, performance, and speed. We reject the bloated defaults of mainstream computing. Instead, we forge an operating system designed strictly for the enthusiast, the tinkerer, and the power user who demands absolute control over their machine.
Mainstream distributions cater to the masses by making decisions for you, often at the cost of overhead and complexity. Athanor is built on Divergence. We diverge from the modern standards of heavy monolithic systems to bring you a hyper-optimized, razor-sharp environment.
If you want a system that stays out of your way and dedicates every CPU cycle to your workloads, you are in the right place.
Athanor strips away the cruft and rebuilds the Linux experience from the ground up using a strictly curated, high-performance tech stack:
- Gentoo-Based: Unparalleled flexibility and source-based compilation. You control exactly what gets built and how.
- musl libc: We drop the heavy glibc in favor of musl. It is lightweight, fast, strict, and ruthlessly efficient.
- Clang/LLVM: Compiled with modern toolchains. We leverage Clang for faster compile times, better diagnostics, and heavily optimized binaries.
- OpenRC: A true, dependency-based init system. No systemd. Just fast, predictable, and clean boot processes.
This .github repository serves as the organization-wide default for Athanor's community health files. Here you will find our default CONTRIBUTING.md, CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md, and issue templates that apply globally across all Athanor repositories.
Building a divergent OS takes a community of like-minded outcasts. Whether you are packaging software, optimizing compiler flags, or writing documentation, your contributions are welcome.
