Turn off ndarray-npy default features to drop zip 6 - #71
ndarray-npy 0.10.0 turns on its npz feature by default, and npz needs zip 6. RustSec published three advisories for zip 6, so the Cargo deny job fails on master with the CI command and cargo-deny 0.20.2:
$ cargo deny --no-default-features --features online,cpu,cuda,migraphx,load-dynamic,_metrics check advisories

cargo audit reports the same three:
$ cargo audit

Crate: zip
Version: 6.0.0
...
error: 3 vulnerabilities found!
Problem
The library reads only .npy files (read_npy and ReadNpyExt), so it does not need npz.
Every crate that depends on speakrs gets zip 6, and cargo deny or cargo audit fails there too.
ndarray-npy 0.10.0 is the newest release, so a version bump does not fix it.
After
[dependencies]
ndarray-npy = { version = "0.10.0", default-features = false }
[dev-dependencies]
zip = { version = "9", default-features = false, features = ["deflate-flate2-zlib-rs"] }
The two ignored CPU acceptance tests read .npz captures. They now open each capture with zip 9 and read the entry with ReadNpyExt:
$ cargo deny --no-default-features --features online,cpu,cuda,migraphx,load-dynamic,_metrics check
advisories ok, bans ok, licenses ok, sources ok
$ cargo audit

Cause, design, and checks
Cause.Cargo.toml declares ndarray-npy = "0.10.0", which turns on the default features compressed_npz and num-complex-0_4. compressed_npz turns on npz, which adds zip = "6". Only src/inference/cpu/segmentation/tests.rs and src/inference/cpu/embedding/tests.rs use NpzReader, in all_pinned_raw_and_saved_rust_windows.
Design. A dev-dependency on ndarray-npy with npz keeps zip 6 in Cargo.lock, and cargo deny checks dev-dependencies, so the job still fails. zip 9 as a direct dev-dependency has no advisory. Edition 2024 uses resolver 3, so the dev-dependency does not reach the normal build or a downstream crate. NpzReader::by_name("logits") first looks up logits and then logits.npy. numpy.savez writes logits.npy, so the tests ask for that name. The deflate-flate2-zlib-rs feature reads numpy.savez_compressed captures, as compressed_npz did, and uses the flate2 backend already in the lockfile. zip 9.0.5 has rust-version = "1.88", below the MSRV of 1.89.
Lockfile. It removes zip 6.0.0, arbitrary, derive_arbitrary, and zopfli. It adds zip 9.0.5, typed-path, nix, and cfg_aliases, all as dev-dependencies only.
Checks.
cargo test --workspace --exclude speakrs-python with the CI model fixtures: all speakrs and speakrs-sdk suites pass (214 lib tests). Two xtask tests (datasets::tests::source_completion_manifest_rejects_a_partial_copy and stale_previous_installation_replaces_an_invalid_final_directory) fail with No such file or directory on my machine. They fail the same way on master without this change, and xtask does not depend on ndarray-npy or zip.
cargo test -p speakrs --no-default-features --features online,cpu: passes.
I could not run the two ignored acceptance tests, because they need the SPEAKRS_CPU_BASELINE_DIR captures. A scratch crate with the same read code reads arrays from both a numpy.savez file and a numpy.savez_compressed file:

Walkthrough
The development dependency configuration removes ndarray-npy's NPZ feature and adds zip 9. Embedding and segmentation tests now read optimized-tensor NPY arrays directly from ZIP archives.
Changes: NPZ Feature Update
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Update NPZ test dependencies Cargo.toml, CHANGELOG.md, deny.toml
The development dependencies add zip 9 with default features disabled and deflate-flate2-zlib-rs enabled. The ndarray-npy development dependency no longer enables compressed_npz. The changelog records the removal of zip 6 and three listed security advisories from the dependency tree. deny.toml removes the related advisory ignores and zip ban.
Read test arrays from ZIP archives src/inference/cpu/embedding/tests.rs, src/inference/cpu/segmentation/tests.rs
Embedding tests read masks.npy and embeddings.npy from ZIP archives. Segmentation tests read logits.npy from a ZIP archive.
The dependency comment still needs a wording correction. The current dependency configuration shows no zip 6 path, so this does not block merging.

speakrs reads only .npy files. The default npz feature of ndarray-npy
0.10.0 pulls in zip 6, which has RUSTSEC-2026-0367, RUSTSEC-2026-0368,
and RUSTSEC-2026-0369, so cargo deny fails.
The two ignored CPU acceptance tests read .npz captures. They now open
them with zip 9 as a dev-dependency and read each entry with ReadNpyExt,
which is what NpzReader::by_name did.

Use the actual ndarray-npy feature name in this comment.
ndarray-npy 0.10.0 enables compressed_npz, not a feature named npz. Use the exact feature name so the comment matches the dependency configuration. (docs.rs)

zip 6 no longer reaches the dependency graph, so its advisory ignores
went stale and the ban on zip outside ndarray-npy now rejects the
zip 9 dev-dependency the npz tests use.
