🛠️ loadout-tab5 - Manage hardware tools with simple steps

loadout-tab5 acts as a central hub for your M5Stack Tab5 device. It lets you update software, manage inner hardware components, and test device functions without complex code. The system runs on the ESP32-P4 processor and uses a simple, visual interface to handle tasks.

📋 System Requirements

To run the system, your computer needs the following:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • One free USB port.
  • A USB-C data cable.
  • An active internet connection for updates.
  • An SD card to store firmware files.

📥 How to Install

You need to access the software files to get started. Use the button below to reach the project page.

Follow these steps to set up the software:

  1. Visit the link provided above to open the repository page.
  2. Look for the Releases section on the right side of the screen.
  3. Click the most recent version number.
  4. Locate the file ending in .exe in the Assets list.
  5. Click the file to download it to your computer.
  6. Open your Downloads folder.
  7. Double-click the file to start the installer.
  8. Follow the prompts on the screen to finish the setup.

⚙️ Using the Firmware Launcher

The firmware launcher updates your device. Follow these steps when you want to change the software on your M5Stack Tab5:

  1. Save your firmware file onto your SD card.
  2. Insert the SD card into the device.
  3. Power on the M5Stack Tab5.
  4. Select the Firmware Loader option from the main menu on the screen.
  5. Choose your file from the list shown on the display.
  6. Press the select button.
  7. Wait while the device updates.

If an update fails, the device rolls back to the previous stable version. This keeps your device working even if a file has errors.

🎛️ Working with Internal Tools

The software includes a toolbox. These tools help you test hardware parts. Access them through the main menu on your device screen.

Camera Testing

Use this tool to view the camera feed. It helps you check if the lens focus and sensor work correctly.

IMU Sensor Check

This shows the movement data from the internal sensor. It displays numbers in real-time as you tilt or rotate the device.

GPIO and I2C Connections

These tools allow you to check the pins on the back of your device. You can verify if a connected piece of hardware sends or receives signals.

UART Connections

This tool acts as a terminal for serial communication. It shows text messages sent between your device and other hardware.

Power Management

View the battery level and charging status here. It provides details about the current power draw from the battery.

Audio Output

Use the audio test to play a sound. This confirms that the speaker inside the device functions.

🔄 Updating the Software

The loadout-tab5 software connects to the internet to find updates. You do not need to repeat the manual installation process often.

  1. Connect your device to your computer via USB.
  2. Ensure your computer has internet access.
  3. Open the loadout-tab5 menu on the device.
  4. Select the Update option.
  5. The device checks our server for new files.
  6. If an update exists, follow the on-screen request to install it.

🆘 Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you encounter problems, first check these items:

  • Does the cable transmit data? Some cables only provide power. Try a different cable if the computer does not recognize the device.
  • Is the SD card seated? If the screen does not show files, remove and reinsert the card.
  • Is the battery charged? Plug the device into a wall power source if the device refuses to turn on.
  • Do you see a warning light? A red LED often means the power level is low. A green LED indicates the device is ready.

The software is designed for reliability. If you need to revert to a previous state, use the rollback tool located in the settings menu. This returns the device to the last version that worked without errors.
