Effective Date: August 19, 2026
Version: 1.0
Repository Owner: Tarun Bansal
Repository Type: Personal Learning and Collaborative Review Repository
This Contributor License Agreement ("Agreement") applies to any person or legal entity that submits, proposes, or otherwise provides a contribution to this Repository.
The purpose of this Agreement is to clarify the intellectual-property rights associated with contributions and to ensure that the Repository Owner can use, maintain, modify, develop, and distribute accepted contributions as part of the Repository.
This Agreement applies specifically to Contributor Material and does not transfer ownership of the Repository Owner's existing material.
The Repository may evolve over time from a personal learning and experimentation repository into a larger software, technical, educational, or collaborative project. This Agreement is intended to remain applicable to accepted Contributions regardless of future changes to the Repository's structure or purpose.
The GitHub repository to which the Contributor submits a Contribution and to which this Agreement is associated.
Tarun Bansal, the owner of the Repository.
The individual or legal entity submitting a Contribution to the Repository.
Any original material intentionally submitted by the Contributor for inclusion in the Repository, including but not limited to:
- Source code
- Scripts
- Configuration
- Infrastructure-as-Code
- Documentation
- Examples
- Tests
- Bug fixes
- Exercises
- Technical explanations
- Diagrams
- Workflows
- Automation
- Other copyrightable material
A Contribution does not include material created independently by the Repository Owner.
Owner Material has the meaning given to it in TERMS.md.
Owner Material remains the property of the Repository Owner and is not affected by this Agreement.
A Contribution that the Repository Owner has accepted for inclusion in the Repository, whether by merging, incorporating, publishing, or otherwise intentionally using the Contribution as part of the Repository.
The Contributor retains ownership of the copyright and other intellectual-property rights that the Contributor independently owns in their original Contribution.
Nothing in this Agreement transfers ownership of the Contributor's copyright to the Repository Owner unless a separate written agreement expressly provides for such transfer.
The Contributor does not obtain ownership of:
- The Repository;
- Owner Material;
- The Repository's existing source code;
- The Repository's learning material;
- The Repository's curriculum;
- The Repository's documentation;
- The Repository's structure or organization;
- The Repository's workflows or methodologies; or
- Material independently created by the Repository Owner.
Submitting a Contribution does not create joint ownership of the Repository or Owner Material.
A Contribution may be incorporated into, combined with, modified alongside, or distributed together with Owner Material. Doing so does not give the Contributor any ownership interest in Owner Material.
Subject to the terms of this Agreement, the Contributor grants the Repository Owner a:
- Worldwide
- Perpetual
- Irrevocable
- Non-exclusive
- Royalty-free
- Fully paid
- Transferable
- Sublicensable
license to use the Contribution.
This license includes the right to:
- Use the Contribution;
- Reproduce the Contribution;
- Modify the Contribution;
- Adapt the Contribution;
- Create derivative works from the Contribution;
- Combine the Contribution with other material;
- Incorporate the Contribution into the Repository;
- Publish the Contribution;
- Display the Contribution;
- Distribute the Contribution;
- Make the Contribution available through GitHub or other distribution mechanisms;
- Maintain and modify the Repository containing the Contribution;
- Continue developing the Repository using the Contribution;
- Include the Contribution in future versions of the Repository;
- Remove or replace the Contribution;
- Transfer or assign the Repository or relevant rights to another person or legal entity; and
- Sublicense the Contribution as necessary for the operation, distribution, maintenance, development, or future use of the Repository.
The license applies only to rights that the Contributor has the legal authority to grant.
The license granted under this Agreement allows the Repository Owner to maintain and develop the Repository without requiring additional permission from the Contributor for each future use of an Accepted Contribution.
The Repository Owner may modify, replace, reorganize, combine, refactor, expand, or remove a Contribution as part of maintaining or developing the Repository.
The Contributor understands that an Accepted Contribution may become integrated with other Repository material and may become part of future versions or derivatives of the Repository.
This Agreement does not grant the Contributor any license or other permission to use Owner Material beyond the rights expressly provided in TERMS.md.
In particular, submitting a Contribution does not give the Contributor permission to:
- Copy Owner Material into another repository;
- Republish Owner Material;
- Create a competing learning repository using Owner Material;
- Create a mentoring or training program using Owner Material;
- Commercially exploit Owner Material;
- Represent Owner Material as their own;
- Claim ownership of Owner Material;
- Use the Repository Owner's original educational material as their own curriculum; or
- Create substantially similar educational or technical material by reproducing protected Owner Material.
The Contributor's rights in their own Contribution remain separate from the Repository Owner's rights in Owner Material.
The Repository Owner retains sole ownership and administrative control of the Repository, subject to applicable law and expressly granted rights.
Participation in the Repository does not create any right for a Contributor to:
- Direct the Repository Owner;
- Manage the Repository;
- Control the Repository's direction;
- Make decisions on behalf of the Repository Owner;
- Require acceptance or rejection of a Contribution;
- Require continued access to the Repository;
- Require continued use of a Contribution; or
- Represent themselves as an owner, administrator, manager, or authorized representative of the Repository.
Contributor permissions are limited to the permissions expressly granted by the Repository Owner through GitHub and the Repository's contribution process.
A Contributor's participation in the Repository does not create any ownership interest, management right, partnership interest, or claim over future development of the Repository.
The Repository Owner may independently:
- Continue developing the Repository;
- Modify the Repository;
- Expand the Repository;
- Change the Repository's purpose;
- Change the Repository's structure;
- Add or remove functionality;
- Create derivative versions;
- Rename or reorganize the Repository;
- Migrate the Repository;
- Transfer the Repository;
- Commercialize the Repository;
- Place portions of the Repository under different licensing arrangements where legally permitted; or
- Otherwise develop or manage the Repository.
These activities do not create additional ownership rights for Contributors merely because they previously participated in the Repository.
By submitting a Contribution, the Contributor represents that:
- They are legally entitled to submit the Contribution;
- They own the Contribution or have sufficient rights and permissions to grant the rights described in this Agreement;
- The Contribution does not knowingly violate another person's copyright, trademark, patent, trade-secret, privacy, or other rights;
- The Contribution does not knowingly violate a contractual obligation owed to another person or organization;
- If the Contribution contains third-party material, the Contributor has identified the applicable license or permission where reasonably necessary;
- They have obtained any permissions required to submit material that they do not independently own;
- They are not knowingly submitting confidential or proprietary information belonging to another person or organization; and
- They have authority to enter into this Agreement where they are submitting a Contribution on behalf of a legal entity.
A Contributor must not submit third-party material unless the Contributor has the necessary rights or permission to do so.
If a Contribution incorporates third-party material, the Contributor should identify the relevant third-party source and applicable license where reasonably necessary.
The license granted under this Agreement does not extend to third-party material beyond the rights that the Contributor is legally entitled to grant.
The Repository Owner is not required to accept, merge, publish, maintain, or distribute any Contribution.
The Repository Owner may:
- Reject a Contribution;
- Request changes;
- Modify a Contribution;
- Remove a Contribution;
- Decline to merge a pull request;
- Close a pull request;
- Decline future Contributions; or
- Remove a previously accepted Contribution where appropriate.
Submission of a Contribution does not guarantee that it will become part of the Repository.
The Repository Owner may provide attribution to Contributors where appropriate.
Attribution may include:
- Git history;
- Pull requests;
- Commit history;
- Contributor listings;
- Repository documentation;
- Release notes; or
- Other reasonable project records.
The Repository Owner is not required to reproduce a Contributor's preferred attribution format unless separately agreed.
Unless separately agreed in writing, Contributions are made voluntarily and without expectation of payment, royalties, employment, ownership, partnership, or other compensation.
The Contributor is responsible for determining whether their Contribution is permitted under any employment, contractor, academic, or other agreement to which they are subject.
If a Contributor is submitting a Contribution on behalf of an employer, organization, client, or other legal entity, the Contributor must ensure that they have the authority to enter into this Agreement and grant the rights described herein.
A Contributor must not submit work owned by an employer or another organization without the necessary authorization.
Where the Contribution is owned by a legal entity rather than the individual Contributor, the applicable rights should be confirmed before submission.
Nothing in this Agreement gives a Contributor:
- Ownership of the Repository;
- Administrative control over the Repository;
- Ownership of the Repository Owner's GitHub account;
- Ownership of Owner Material;
- A partnership interest;
- A joint-venture interest;
- A management interest; or
- Any other ownership interest in the Repository.
Contributor access is limited to the permissions granted through GitHub and the Repository Owner's contribution process.
The Repository Owner reserves the right to grant, modify, restrict, suspend, or terminate a Contributor's access to the Repository at the Repository Owner's sole discretion, subject to applicable law.
Access may be terminated at any time, including but not limited to circumstances involving:
- Violation of
TERMS.md; - Violation of this Agreement;
- Unauthorized use or redistribution of Owner Material;
- Submission of material that infringes or may infringe third-party rights;
- Misuse of Repository resources;
- Conduct that the Repository Owner reasonably considers harmful to the Repository or its participants; or
- Any other circumstance in which the Repository Owner determines that continued access is no longer appropriate.
The Repository Owner may also terminate or modify access without providing a reason, subject to applicable law.
Termination of access does not:
- Transfer ownership of the Repository;
- Transfer ownership of Owner Material;
- Automatically revoke rights previously granted for Accepted Contributions;
- Create any right to continued access to the Repository;
- Require the Repository Owner to provide advance notice; or
- Create any obligation for the Repository Owner to continue using a Contributor's material.
Termination of access does not affect rights or obligations that are expressly intended to survive termination under this Agreement or TERMS.md.
The Contributor provides their Contribution on an "as is" basis, except to the extent otherwise required by applicable law.
The Contributor does not guarantee that the Contribution is:
- Error-free;
- Suitable for production;
- Secure;
- Complete; or
- Suitable for a particular purpose.
The Repository Owner is responsible for deciding whether and how an Accepted Contribution is used within the Repository.
Nothing in this Agreement is intended to prevent a Contributor from independently using, developing, or reusing material that the Contributor independently owns, subject to:
- Third-party rights;
- Confidentiality obligations;
- Employment or contractual obligations;
- Applicable law; and
- The Contributor's obligation not to use or reproduce the Repository Owner's Owner Material without permission.
A Contributor must not represent Owner Material as part of their independently created work.
This Agreement must be read together with TERMS.md.
TERMS.md governs access to and use of the Repository and Owner Material.
This Agreement governs the rights granted by a Contributor in relation to their Contribution.
If a provision specifically concerning Contributor Material conflicts with a provision concerning Owner Material, the provisions governing ownership of Owner Material remain applicable to Owner Material.
Nothing in this Agreement overrides an express license applicable to third-party material contained in the Repository.
Except for the rights expressly granted in this Agreement, no rights are granted by the Contributor to the Repository Owner.
Likewise, the Repository Owner does not grant the Contributor any rights in Owner Material except those expressly provided by TERMS.md.
Participation in the Repository does not create implied ownership, management, partnership, employment, agency, or other rights.
The rights granted under this Agreement are intended to survive the Contributor's departure from the Repository.
The license granted for an Accepted Contribution is perpetual and irrevocable, subject to applicable law.
Removing a Contributor from the Repository does not automatically revoke rights previously granted under this Agreement.
Sections concerning ownership, license grants, representations, limitations, survival, and other provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive termination or cessation of participation.
The Repository Owner may update this Agreement for future Contributions.
Unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing, changes to this Agreement do not retroactively alter rights that were already granted for previously accepted Contributions.
A Contributor submitting a new Contribution after an updated version becomes effective agrees to the version applicable at the time of submission.
If any provision of this Agreement is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by applicable law.
This Agreement is intended to be interpreted in accordance with the laws applicable to the Repository Owner.
The applicable jurisdiction and dispute-resolution mechanism may be specified by the Repository Owner in a future revision.
Note: The governing-law and dispute-resolution provisions should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer before this Agreement is relied upon as a formal legal contract.
Before submitting a Contribution, the Contributor must acknowledge:
I have read and understood this Contributor License Agreement (
CLA.md) andTERMS.md.I confirm that I have the necessary rights and permissions to submit my Contribution.
I understand that I retain ownership of intellectual property that I independently own in my Contribution, subject to the rights granted to the Repository Owner under this Agreement.
I understand that contributing to this Repository does not give me ownership, administrative control, management authority, or any other ownership interest in the Repository or the Repository Owner's material.
I understand that the Repository Owner retains sole ownership and administrative control of the Repository, subject to applicable law and expressly granted rights.
I agree to the terms of this Contributor License Agreement.
