Zowe Explorer currently unavailable in VS Code Marketplace

It has come to our attention that several VS Code extensions were removed by Microsoft from the VS Code Marketplace for, at the moment, unknown reasons. Zowe Explorer, which is a prerequisite for Z Open Editor is amongst them. We will update this item once we know more. Microsoft is responding in issues on their Github repo here: https://github.com/microsoft/vsmarketplace/issues. The Zowe team created this issue for tracking: microsoft/vsmarketplace#1115

In the meantime, if you need to install or upgrade Zowe Explorer you can find it still at

• https://open-vsx.org/extension/Zowe/vscode-extension-for-zowe or
• https://ibm.github.io/mainframe-downloads/downloads.html#wazi (inside the download zip file for our IDz for VS Code distribution; click on Download Client)

• PlatformIO IDE extension has been removed with over 4,500,000 unique installs microsoft/vsmarketplace#1114 (comment)

These extensions and a few others were removed from the Visual Studio Marketplace as versions were flagged as malicious. We will be working with owners to bring them back.

Several versions of the extensions contained a package that is known bitcoin mining malware.

Yes, that is part of the confusion as we do not use that package.
